πŸ“‹ Description

What is Maslow

Media

?

Maslow Media is our storytelling arm β€” the camera, the mic, the signal boost. We produce real-world documentaries, podcast episodes, animations, graphic novels, and viral video campaigns to tell the story of paradise-making around the world.

πŸ‘“ Overview

πŸ“Ί Why we make films

Videos, images and podcasts are probably the most powerful mediums to shape ideas. We need to tell stories from the font lines of planetary boundary action. How do we humans get our needs met? How can we get those needs met without destroying our ability to live in the environment? How do we setup a system where humans can not only live without cost of living, but really truly thrive in abundance with nature? This is the question we ask.

We are recording and uploading our journey as best we can. Geoff Lawton told us when we took his PDC, that the one regret he has from his career in Permaculture, that he didn't do enough documentation of before and after and process images and videos. This is our chance to build a library, a journey, of what it was like for humans at the most crucial moment in history, responding to a global situation and how we got through to the other side, building a paradise among the stars that will last.

This is not content for content’s sake. It’s mycelial communication.
It spreads ideas. It sparks action. It builds culture.

πŸ”₯ Why Media Matters Now

We’re not just building food forests.
We’re building the myths of the next civilization.

  • In a world overwhelmed by noise, we focus the signal.

  • Every garden planted becomes a story worth telling.

  • Every site we build creates its own broadcast node.

  • And every piece of content builds momentum for a movement.

The future is seeded by stories.
That’s why we film what we grow.

πŸ“œ History

Hi, Bernard Myburgh here, one of Maslow's co-founders. I am originally a professional filmmaker, having produced, directed, shot, edited and visual effected various documentaries, films and adverts around the world. I am currently sitting on more than 10 Terabytes of footage of the entire process of what we have been up to at Maslow since starting on the 1st of October 2023.

Why have we not released any videos and footage yet?

We started this mission with the following simple question: How do we solve for human needs? (Hence the name: The Maslow Initiative) This single question is a rabbit hole as you start analysing everything from how we get our food needs met, how we get our shelter, water, energy, sanitation needs met, and what have to do on the free open market in order to make money… in order to get those needs met, i.e. to pay for them. Its very interesting to look into, but suffice it to say, we didn't have an idea of how to approach either making a website and content about what we are doing, because we felt we didn't yet have anything to offer the world.

Regret Number 1: Not just uploading and publishing our journey as we went along. We missed an opportunity to build an audience as we developed and made mistakes, but personally, I was trapped in my perfectionism.

Lesson: Build in public, momento mori, we will all die one day, there is no use in holding anything back. So the best time to start publishing content was 2 years ago, second best time is now.

After nearly 2 years of research and development, and making 1000s of mistakes, we finally feel ready to go live with our ideas, with our products, what we have been doing, and co-creating and navigating with an audience, the way through upcoming troubled waters.
