Principles vs. Rules

Principles vs. Rules

Principles vs. Rules

Definition

Rules are rigid directives; principles are flexible guidelines that adapt to context while holding true to core values.

Interpretation

Flow over force. Rules say β€œalways.” Principles say β€œpay attention.” In Permaculture, we favor principles β€” they bend with reality, not break under it.

Living Invitation

When making a choice today, ask: am I following a rule... or honoring a principle?
